Originally from Massachusetts, Chris Carter moved to Vermont in 2014. She learned to paint with oils by watching and painting with her father as a child, and developed her own techniques and abilities through experience. She’s recently been painting with watercolor and continuing to develop a more flowing technique, taking advantage of the more tonal hues and washes in that medium. Her oil paintings tend to be very detailed, so in using watercolor she’s able to “loosen up” her technique.
“I’m inspired by the quietness and beauty in nature Imagining a spot for myself in each painting to observe that moment in time… and to think that this spot would differ from viewer to viewer, as well as what they would observe there. I’d like also to inspire my viewers to pick up a brush, and be drawn into creating something wonderful,” she says.
An exhibition of Chris Carter’s work, “Collection of Inspiration & Solitude,” will be on display at The Crowell Gallery, at the rear of The Moore Free Library in Newfane, during November. Join a reception for the artist on Saturday, Nov 2 from 1-3p. (Gallery Hours: T-W-F 1–5p, Thurs 2–7, Sat 10–1.)
