The Stone Trust: A lost art blossoms in Dummerston

At The Stone Trust Center in Dummerston there’s an amazing collection of stone walls and features in a beautiful setting overlooking the nearby hills. Formerly called the Master Features Park, this area has an ever changing collection of stonework built by master and advanced wallers as well as workshop participants.

Scott Farm Orchard in Dummerston invites you to stop by this fall to take in solid examples of stone-wall artistry wrought under The Stone Trust’s educational and certification programs. The Stone Trust Center, established in 2010, is a multifaceted resource engaged in preserving the natural use of plentiful stone in simple and gratifying ways. It is the only facility in North America that provides year-round educational and Dry Stone Walling Association certification opportunities for all levels and abilities. While you’re there, pick up a bag of heirloom apples from the Scott Farm store.

The farm, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been in active cultivation since 1791. This 571-acre farm has been owned since 1995 by the Landmark Trust USA, a Vermont non-profit organization whose mission is to rescue important but neglected historic properties and bring them back to life.
