Sept. 20-23: Jim Coe Plein Air Workshop. Coe is a master artist for Birds in Art and signature member of the Oil Painters of America. Various Dates: Floyd Scholz, master carver, workshop. A professional carver, Scholz is universally recognized as one of the top carver of birds in the world. Floyd is in residence at the Bennington for numerous workshops throughout the summer. Ongoing: Students will learn the techniques of carving small animals from blocks of wood. Students will carve and paint a piece with instruction on every aspect of the art form. Starting Sep 9: Music lessons, workshops and classes for kids starts up Sep 9. The BMC offers lessons on 19 different instruments, including vocal lessons, from 40 exceptional faculty members. Workshops include Intro to New Approach Techniques, Early Music Vocal Workshop and Conducting. Ongoing: Since 1976, the Brattleboro Music Center’s Music School has been sharing the gift of music. The BMC teaches music to all ages – from 3 to 103 – and continues to be at the heart of music in the Brattleboro community.

in collaboration with Write Action, Haiku in its traditional Japanese form is a widely known poetic genre which evokes the natural world in unpredictable and surprising ways using essential language. We will explore the more contemporary forms as practiced in the West which relate with direct perception rather than mere syllabic count. Drawing on exercises and sample Haiku, our aim is to create vivid Haiku moments. Word + Image with RGS faculty, free, 1-4 p, Following the Haiku workshop, participants and others can experience making a visual representation of the written word. RGS faculty will offer various possibilities to experiment with, such as using letterpress, calligraphy, and collage. Oct 6: Going Wild in Pastels, with Robert Carsten.
