Sept 10-Oct 3: The Seafarer. In Conor McPherson’s recent Broadway hit, it’s a dark and stormy Christmas Eve in Ireland and Sharky has returned home to look after his irascible, aging brother who’s recently gone blind. Old drinking buddies Ivan and Nicky are holed up at the house too, hoping to play some cards. Oct 10 & 17: Love, Loss, and What I Wore. Nora and Delia Ephron’s concert staged production, based on the bestseller by Ilene Beckerman, is a collection of monologues and ensemble pieces about women, clothes and memory. It covers important subjects like mothers, prom dresses, and why we only wear black.

Thru Sept 5: Hate Hamlet. A rising Hollywood star accepts the role of Hamlet at New York’s Shakespeare in the Park and his agent thinks he’s gone daft. Why trade a fluffy, big money TV role for dusty old Shakespeare? Leave it to the ghost of actor John Barrymore, the quintessential Hamlet of the 20th century, to give him his answer. Sept 9-12: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Mark Twain’s classic novel of Missouri boyhood comes to the stage in a high-spirited theatrical romp. Mischievous Tom and his pal Huck witness a murder, then embark on a string of wild escapades.

Sept 5 & 6: Friends of Music at Guilford’s 50th Anniversary Season launch at the Guilford Organ Barn includes an Organ Concert in the Barn on Saturday night, and an Orchestra Concert on the lawn on Sunday afternoon. Saturday night’s recital in the Barn features Susan Summerfield, a professor of music and college organist at Saint Michael’s College, performing works by members of the Bach family, Couperin, Dandrieu, Milhaud, and Lou Harrison. This indoor event is rain or shine and admission free, with donations welcome. The Sunday lawn concert by the Festival Orchestra includes Don McLean’s “Fanfare for the 50th,” Mozart’s rarely heard Symphony #26 and a duet from his opera “Don Giovanni,” Gouvy’s Petite Suite Gauloise, Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and Nick Humez’s [Hew-MAY’s] reorchestrated suite of music from a 1978 Monteverdi Players production of “Alice.” Vocal soloists for the Mozart are soprano Julie Johnson Olsson and tenor James Anderson, and for the Humez are Don and Evelyn McLean, who are reprising their original roles in “Alice.” Grounds open at 12 noon for picnics and lunch sales. In case of threatening weather, the lunch and orchestra concert are moved to Broad Brook Grange on the Guilford Center Rd. Admission is free, with donations welcome.  FOMAG’s 50th Anniversary Season is sponsored in part by Vermont Public Radio and the Vermont Arts Council’s VtArts2015 program.

Aug 21-Sept 6: Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer. In one hilarious act, the action supposedly in the dark is illuminated, when the lights are to be on, the stage is dark. Lovesick and desperate, Brindsley a young sculptor has embellished his apartment with furniture and objects d’arte “borrowed” from the absent antique dealer next door hoping to impress his fiancee’s pompous father and a wealthy art dealer. Sept 25-Oct 11: The Lion in Winter by James Goldman. King Henry II of England has three sons by Eleanor of Aquitaine. He wants the kingdom to stay united after his death, but all three sons want to rule and it is likely to be torn apart by revolution.
