Sep 27: Opening reception, “Healing: The Transformative Imagery of Art,” 5:30p.

“Anti-inflammatory,” Carolyn Enz Hack, mixed media (patinated copper, mica, steel), 36 in. x 22 in. x 2 in., 2018.

In recent years hospital leaders, physicians and patients have discovered that art and music in the hospital environment can help patients deal with their illnesses more effectively and and possibly can return them to full functioning earlier.

According to Nina Jamison, director of exhibitions at the Great Hall, “In creating this show, we were seeking art that has a positive impact and helps viewers rise above challenges, offering hope and inspiration. The 12 artists in the exhibition have drawn on personal—in some cases tragic—experiences, and offer inspirational art to share with the viewer.”

The exhibition features such renowned New England artists as painters Robert O’Brien, Cai Xi Silver, and Robert Carsten; sculptors Pat Musick, Carolyn Enz Hack, Mary Admasian, Margaret Jacobs-Enfield; ceramic artist Natalie Blake; stained glass artist Karen Deets; blown glass artist Robert DuGrenier; and fiber artists Priscilla Petraska and Neomi Lauritsen. Overall their work redounds to Brattleboro, Chester, Montpelier, Fair Haven, Townshend, Fair Haven and Springfield, Vt., and Enfield, N.H.

The public is invited to an artists’ reception with wine, Trout River craft beer, and light refreshments.

Exhibits at The Great Hall are sponsored by Springfield Regional Development Corporation.
